Patterson High has partnered with Modesto Junior College to offer college classes to students. Dual enrollment means that students are enrolled in high school and college at the SAME time and have the opportunity to earn college credits TUITION FREE.
Career Technical Education (CTE) and Workforce Preparation in a school district focus on equipping students with practical skills, industry knowledge, and work-related experiences that prepare them for successful careers and further education.
The PLUS/Peer Resources course is a two-semester course that combines high-level critical thinking, writing, and analytical skills with project experiences and implementation, while giving students an opportunity to explore interpersonal and mass communications as they identify and address critical issues related to school climate. Through this class students will become more empowered peer leaders as they hone their communication and problem solving skills. Students will participate in Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) projects which includes: research and evaluation, project planning and execution, as well as leadership and critical thinking-based activities in order to further develop these key skills in tandem with mentorship and peer education. This class will require students to synthesize information obtained in core classes as well as work both individually and collaboratively. Findings from these experiences will lead students to become empathic and responsible citizens who can apply their knowledge to larger-scale future projects as their ages, resources, and scopes increase.
These are college-level courses offered at the high school that can meet high school graduation requirements. These are challenging classes that give an extra point in a student's GPA. However, college credit is not given for passing the class! In order to get the college units, students must take and pass the related AP exam with a score of 3, 4 or 5. Each college determines what score you need in order for them to issue you credit. You can look here:
Some classes offered at Patterson High are articulated with an MJC course. This means that if you pass the class and meet certain requirements, you can earn college units AND high school credits at the same time by taking only 1 class. Our articulated classes on campus include:
