Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) is an approach to supporting students to be successful in schools. PBIS was developed from research in the fields or behavior theory and effective instruction. PBIS supports all students through intervention ranging from a school-wide PBIS focused on the development and implementation of proactive procedures and practices to prevent problem behavior for all students and improve school climate.

The purpose of the intervention system is help promote positive behavior and acknowledge students who are showing expected behaviors. Students who are improving and making progress in their behaviors are also recognized for their effort .

PBIS is a 3-Tiered program and currently PHS is focusing on Tier 1 and Tier 2

Why is PBIS important at PHS?

When implemented correctly, PBIS practices have been proven to:

increase academic performance
increase expected behaviors
decrease problem behaviors
help establish a positive school culture

At PHS we have a Behavioral Expectations Matrix which outlines the expected behaviors for all areas of campus as it pertains to R.O.A.R. The current matrix is listed below. The matrix is also broken down by area and posted in those areas around campus so students, staff, and visitors can be reminded of our expectations.

Interventions & Consequences for Unwanted Behaviors

Below is a document that outlines discipline guidelines at PHS. This plan is used by staff to determine which steps to take for unwanted behaviors and is a combination of interventions and consequences. This plan is available in the Parent/Student handbook on our school website and is sent out monthly in our PBIS Newsletters (ROAR Reports).

ROAR REWARD POINTS

Show us how you ROAR!

ROAR Reward points are part of an incentive program at PHS to encourage positive behaviors on campus. Both students and staff can earn ROAR points that can be redeemed at our virtual ROAR Store.

ROAR points are awarded and redeemed through Minga, so make sure you have the Minga app downloaded to your mobile device. You can also access your Minga account with your Chromebook.

THE ROAR STORE

Updates for the 22-23 school year!

New for the 2022-2023 school year is the PHS ROAR Store! The ROAR Store will allow students and staff to save up their ROAR points and redeem them for a variety of prizes through the online ROAR Store. Prizes will be available for pick up during lunch periods every Friday (or after school on minimum day Fridays) in the Administration Office.

ROAR Report

WHAT IS A ROAR REPORT?

A PBIS Informational Newsletter

The ROAR Report is our monthly newsletter that is distributed to staff, students, and families at PHS. It provides updates on what the team is working on, reviews behavioral expectations, provides a monthly challenge to families, highlights the positive people or events on campus, and more!

New for 23-24!

In an effort to increase engagement, the ROAR Report will be replaced with "newsletter blasts". We will be taking parts of the newsletter and creating quick announcements and challenges that will be posted to ParentSquare and the PHS social media accounts.

ROAR Reports are sent monthly via ParentSquare, which is accessible via email or through the ParentSquare mobile app. We also post them to the PHS Facebook page.
